The city isn’t too large so it’s fairly easy to get around on foot. Gerona has a 12th-13th century Gothic cathedral. If you pay the cathedral a visit, you won’t be disappointed! Keep an eye out for something called ‘the seat of Carlomagno’ and try to find “the creation” (a tapestry that dates back to the 11th – 12th century).

Sant Pere de Galligants church is a 12th century church in Gerona that houses the city’s own archeological museum.

Museums To Visit In Gerona

Gerona’s historical museum is located in an old convent dating back to the 18th century, which still has part of its cemetery. The museum has a fascinating collection of antique musical instruments.

The Art Museum in Gerona is not one to be missed – it has some of Catalunya’s most important works of art, from sculptures to religious objects.

For a relaxing, and distinctly historical experience, take a trip to the Banys Arabs (Arabic Baths). These remarkable baths date back all the way to the 12th century, and have been lovingly restored, now featuring working baths and sauna.

Shopping In Gerona

Gerona prides itself on selling lots of natural, local products. When out shopping you can find items such as sausages, cheeses, meats, biscuits and honey – all natural and locally produced. If looking for an interesting souvenir or gift to take home, then you might be interested in the ceramics from La Bisbal.

Dining In Gerona

Gerona is not short of great places to eat. Try a fish or seafood dish if you’re a fan – you won’t be disappointed! Meat like duck, steak and lamb are excellent too, and don’t forget to sample some local cheeses and mushrooms. Heaven!
